Macintosh OSX Essentials

provides the critical foundation for smooth sailing in Mac OSX. Beginning with a quick review of basic terminology, this course explains the new Finder, Dock and System Preferences. Topics include file creation, saving and printing, multi-user capabilities, revised navigation features and the revolutionary new system hierarchy of OSX. Learn the basics of network sharing and printer setup, and acquire an overview of the iLife suite of applications. Emphasis is placed on user efficiency and establishing a solid foundation for future learning. An excellent class for the new user, as well as the experienced OS9 user eager for a smooth transition to OSX.

Macintosh OSX System Administration

will provide the missing link for technical coordinators who need an
effective transition from the traditional Mac OS9 (or Classic) environment
to the latest OS X support issues. Topics include: understanding the revised
Finder, Multiple User Access for administration & troubleshooting,
understanding device drivers, managing fonts and other system resources,
file sharing & permissions, preventative maintenance, OS updates &
installation, disaster recovery, and when to call the experts.

Quark XPress Level I

introduces you to the QuarkXPress working environment including tools, palettes, menu options, working with text and managing graphics. This class teaches Quark’s extensive typographic features including character and paragraph formatting with introduction to custom style sheets and master pages that will streamline time-consuming design and composition tasks.

(9 hrs) Prerequisite: Macintosh Essentials or equivalent.

 

Quark XPress Level II

expands on skills learned in Level I. Learn to use advanced features such as page numbering and master pages to manage multi-page documents. Output issues such as custom color, graphic formats and fonts are covered. We’ll examine features such as importing and customizing clipping paths, creating custom shapes and text paths.

(9 hrs) Prerequisite: QXP Level I

 

Adobe InDesign™ Level I

InDesign Level I explores the polished interface common to Adobe products and reveals InDesign's intensive page design, document, and text editing capabilities. You will be introduced to many of the interface and toolbox elements that permit creation and editing of single or multi-page documents. You will also work with imported graphics, text wraps, and layers while learning to keep your page elements organized with guides. Bézier creation with the object & pen tools, gradient fills/strokes, and defining custom color palettes will also be covered. You'll also learn to apply transparency effects such as drop shadows and feathering effects to native objects and placed graphics.

Adobe InDesign™ Level II

InDesign Level II continues the exploration into Adobe’s impressive page layout program. In-depth use of Style Sheets and Master Pages will be covered resulting in a greater understanding of their potential and their time-saving benefits. Additionally, you will learn how to create and use tables, page numbering, multiple page documents, text linking, anchored
images and paragraph rules. Useful elements such as the baseline grid, spell checking, Find/Change, H& J settings and libraries will also be covered.

(9 hrs) Prerequisite: Adobe InDesign Level I or equivalent.

Adobe InDesign™ CS Transition

Is for the agency or creative professional who has recently made the switch
from Quark Xpress to Adobe InDesign. Accelerate your proficiency and gain
access to the tools and features that are seamlessly integrated with Adobe
Photoshop and Illustrator. This course also reveals the professional design
and text editing features you would expect to find in Quark Xpress, while
unveiling the advanced vector and image handling capabilities that have made
other Adobe products so dependable.

Illustration & Image Editing

 

Adobe Photoshop Level I

introduces Photoshop’s interface and powerful image editing tools. From understanding resolution and proper tool usage, to basic retouch and silhouetting techniques, this course will have you on your way to creating and editing single or multi-layered documents that can be exported to your favorite page layout or illustration program.

(9 hrs) Prerequisite: Macintosh Essentials or equivalent.
 

Adobe Photoshop Level ll

expands those skills learned in Level 1 with the integration of selection tools, masking, silhouetting, and compositing with channels, layers and layer masks. You will explore and create dimensional and photorealistic effects. Color calibration, color adjustment tools, application preferences and reproduction concerns are discussed.

(9 hrs) Prerequisite: PS Level I

 

Advanced Photoshop Techniques

is geared to the design professional who needs to integrate the expanded features of Photoshop to transform color photos, type or conventional illustrations with digital effects such as: 3D & lighting effects, combining filters, etc. Complex compositing with layer masks, clipping groups and calculate functions are also featured.

(9 hrs) Prerequisites: PS I & II

 

Adobe Illustrator Level I

introduces the Illustrator working environment with special focus on basic illustration and transformation tools. We focus on path creation and manipulation, as well as controlling the shape tools. We also cover applying and editing custom colors, gradients and creating complex graphics that include many of Illustrator’s features.

(9 hrs) Prerequisite: Macintosh Essentials or equivalent

 

Adobe Illustrator Level II

expands on skills acquired in Level I. We cover the color palette in depth including custom color libraries, blends, and patterns. You will also learn how to convert bitmap images into vector format. We explore the various pathfinder filters, creating masks and layers as well as covering file format, output and color separation concerns.

(9 hrs) Prerequisite: Illus. Level I

 

Adobe FreeHand Level I

covers the use of drawing and transformation tools and introduces drag and drop colors and floating palettes. You will learn to create custom color libraries and gradients. Enhance your design skills with powerful text editing tools, bezier curve drawing and editing tools and import bitmapped graphics to trace or create masks.

(9 hrs) Prerequisite: Macintosh Essentials or equivalent.

 

Adobe FreeHand Level II

expands on the use of many of Freehand’s powerful design tools covered in level one. Learn to create blends to combine color and shapes. You will also explore many of Freehand’s expanded Xtra Tools and Operations including transparency and magnify lens fills. File formats, output and color separation issues will also be covered.

Video Editing

Final Cut Pro Level I

introduces you to the Final Cut Pro working environment including tools, windows, menu options, keyboard shortcuts, working with video, graphics and sound files. This class will cover logging and capturing source material, basic editing techniques, titles, simple effects editing, keyframing, compositing and outputting your project to tape, CD, or the web.

(9 hrs) Prerequisite: Macintosh Essentials or equivalent.
Knowledge of Photoshop would be helpful.

Web Graphics with Photoshop & ImageReady

Use a tracing image to follow and then drag and drop graphics in place. Layout pages by using tables or floating layers. Create, apply, and target links from text, graphics or image maps. Learn to use templates to make creating multiple pages with similar content a snap.

Adobe Dreamweaver Level II

covers optimizing your workflow with libraries and templates and introduces navigation with frames, rollovers and anchors. Learn to create forms for user feedback. Utilize global formatting with Cascading Style Sheets. Use the newest HTML standards and easily convert them for backward compatibility. Become familiar with uploading and transferring site files to a server. Learn to troubleshoot problems, minimize download time and keep your site consistent on all platforms and browsers.

Adobe Dreamweaver Advanced

is for the more experienced user who wants to learn more about Dreamweaver's advanced features, including using Dreamweaver JavaScript Actions and Behaviors, incorporating dynamic HTML features such as layers and stylesheets and implementing multimedia and audio files through the use of plug-ins.

(9 hrs.) Prerequisite: Dreamweaver Levels I and II or equivalent

 

Adobe Fireworks

Fireworks was developed specifically for the creation and editing of images for the web, and ideally integrated with Dreamweaver and Flash. This course will cover many aspects in maximizing its effectiveness, including bitmap editing and photo-retouching. The vector toolset, drawing tools, vector brushes, vector masks, and live filters and effects will be explained. The creation and import of textures and styles will be demonstrated, as will basic image animation and the use of Fireworks-generated html. Image formats/features supported by various
browsers will be discussed, along with issues such as image export and optimization, and slicing techniques for use in web page designs. (9 hrs)

Prerequisite: Some experience in vector, image editing and html is helpful but not essential
 

Adobe Flash Level I

introduces designers and web developers to Adobe’s popular vector-based animation format for the web – Flash. Become comfortable with Flash’s tools and interface and quickly learn to create low-bandwidth animations and interactive page elements. You will set up timeline based animations utilizing keyframes and incorporating motion and shape tweens. Basic interactive action scripts will be introduced and you will learn to export these files to the web making sure they appear as intended on various platforms and browsers.

(9 hrs.) Prerequisite: Some experience in web design and using a vector drawing program like Illustrator is recommended.
 

Adobe Flash Level II

focuses more heavily on creating and utilizing complex symbols such as movie clips, interactive buttons and embedded symbols. Learn to create and manage movies with multiple scenes. Incorporate bitmaps and sound for optimum speed. Basic and intermediate action scripting will be covered including using If/Then statements to create preloading sequences and for processing text field data.
